BA (2:1 Degree Hons) Fine Art
Originally from the United Kingdom, Craig has been based in Sydney since 2014, following his graduation from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. His practice centres on close observation of the everyday, exploring how shape, light, and colour operate within a space. Working through painting, drawing and gestural mark-making, he examines the quiet complexities of perception — how subtle shifts in form or passing moments of light can alter our experience of the familiar.
Craig’s work is informed by the legacy of Post-Impressionism and later developments in figurative painting, particularly the Bay Area Figurative movement. The spatial sensitivity and colour relationships found in the work of Richard Diebenkorn, Henri Matisse and Paul Cézanne provide an important point of reference, while the searching, material intensity of Frank Auerbach’s paintings resonates strongly with his process. Moving between representation and abstraction, Craig’s paintings develop through sustained looking, layering and revision — allowing each work to emerge through a balance of structure, intuition, and lived experience.
